Natural Pigments has created a set of nine earth pigments from the diverse geology of Armenia. The colors range from green earths, yellow ochers, orange red, brown red to bluish red and purple.

The raw materials for our Armenian earth colors are extracted from various provinces of Armenia (see the map below). Pigments from some of these ancient sites were used on early ceramics and religious iconography from prehistory to Byzantium.

This fine grained ocher originates in felsite deposits, a very fine grained volcanic rock consisting of a fine-grained matrix of felsic materials, particularly quartz and feldspar. | |
433-2410 | Hrazdan Yellow Ocher is a very transparent yellow ocher from mineral deposits near the river of Hrazdan in the Kotayk province of Armenia. It is a fine-grained pigment with bright gold undertones. | |
453-1410 | Armenian Mummy Red Light is a semi-transparent red ocher with orange undertones, fine grained, low tinting strength. This red earth is pigment from quarries in the Lori province of northern Armenia. Mummy derives its name from the Russian word мумию that denotes a pigment of brownish red color similar to the nineteenth century pigment derived from ground mummies. | |
